Brazil's Botafogo claimed a 2-1 victory over MLS side Seattle Sounders FC in their Group 2 encounter of the FIFA Club World Cup on Monday at Lumen Field in Washington, D.C.
The Brazilian club opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Jair Cunha finished a precise cross from teammate Alex Telles. Botafogo doubled their lead just before halftime as Igor Jesus headed home from a well-organized attack in the 44th minute.
Seattle pulled one back in the 76th minute through Cristian Roldan, whose deflected header wrong-footed Botafogo goalkeeper Vitor. Despite late pressure from the Sounders, the Brazilian side held on for all three points.
With this result, Botafogo moves into second place in Group 2 on goal difference behind French giants Paris Saint-Germain, who thrashed Spain's Atlético Madrid 4-0 on Sunday evening. The victory marks Botafogo's first three points in the tournament as they continue their quest for global club glory.
