Egypt, Britain, and France called today, Thursday, to continue communications and work jointly to avoid escalation in the region while leveraging available diplomatic channels to calm the situation.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement that this came during two phone calls made by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty with his French counterpart, Jean-Noël Barrot, and British National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, discussing the rapidly unfolding developments in the region.
The statement noted that Abdelatty emphasized to his French counterpart the importance of combined regional and international efforts to halt escalation in the region and contain the situation to prevent the conflict from expanding. He warned of the grave repercussions on the security and stability of the region should military escalation continue.
He stressed that "there is no alternative to political and diplomatic solutions to de-escalate tensions, cease fire, and resume negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program."
Abdelatty also underscored the necessity of not allowing the ongoing military escalation to divert attention from the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
He reaffirmed the importance of exerting all efforts to reinstate a ceasefire, highlighting in this context the role Egypt is undertaking alongside Qatar and the United States.
Additionally, he emphasized the urgency of alleviating Palestinian suffering, ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid, and working toward a political horizon for the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution.
Abdelatty expressed hope that European countries would recognize the Palestinian state as a fundamental pillar for achieving peace, security, and stability in the Middle East.
In the call with the British National Security Adviser, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s efforts to curb escalation, stressing the need to contain the military tensions between Israel and Iran.
The statement added that the French and British officials appreciated Egypt’s efforts in de-escalating the current tensions in the region, praising its constructive role in addressing the Palestinian issue.
