The Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday that it had arrested a gang involved in large-scale fraud involving the falsification of data belonging to individuals seeking visas to travel to a number of European countries. The Ministry said in a press statement that this comes within the framework of the ministry's ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and crack down on violators of residency and labor laws, whereby the Nationality and Residency Affairs Sector, represented by the General Administration of Residency Affairs Investigations (Research and Investigation Department), was able to arrest this criminal gang. It explained that the investigations conducted by the department, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, revealed the criminal methods used by the suspects, which included changing professions, falsifying employer data, and tampering with work permits, wages, bank statements, and other official documents in order to meet the requirements imposed by some European embassies for obtaining visas. It stated that preliminary investigations revealed the involvement of an Egyptian national who runs an account on a social media platform from outside the country to promote these services and attract those wishing to migrate illegally. The administration was able to arrest a number of members of the group inside the country and find in their possession electronic devices and forged documents used in carrying out their criminal activities. The Ministry of Interior pointed out that, within the framework of international security cooperation, immediate coordination took place with the relevant authorities in Egypt, resulting in the arrest of the remaining members of the group. The relevant procedures are currently being completed. The Ministry of Interior affirmed its continued efforts to pursue anyone who dares to tamper with the laws of the state or harm its security, stressing that it will not be lenient in dealing with these criminal activities and calling on everyone to comply with the laws and regulations in force.
