The martyrs of Kuwait during the brutal Iraqi invasion of 1990 etched eternal heroic epics with their noble blood. They became symbols of sacrifice in defiance of occupation, leaving an indelible mark on the conscience of the Kuwaiti people as they ascended to their Creator—martyrs among civilians, soldiers, and resistance fighters who fell defending their homeland. Some were martyred on the battlefield, while others perished under torture or during valiant operations to protect their fellow citizens.
The Kuwaiti resistance played a pivotal role during the occupation, carrying out bold, high-stakes operations—from gathering intelligence and sabotaging supply lines to directly targeting the invading forces—despite immense risks and sacrifices. United and composed of diverse segments of Kuwaiti society, the resistance stood as an enduring testament to national solidarity.
After the invaders were repelled and the dawn of liberation broke, the Kuwaiti government honored the martyrs’ heroism by establishing the Martyrs’ Bureau in 1991, supporting their families, and immortalizing their sacrifices through projects like the Martyrs’ Park and the Al-Qurain Martyrs’ Museum. Today, Kuwaitis continue to walk the path of their martyrs, safeguarding their homeland and flag, drawing inspiration from their sacrifices as timeless lessons in devotion and unity
