Algeria called on the UN Security Council during an emergency meeting Sunday to impose sanctions on the Israeli occupation, condemning its "brutal assault" on Gaza and recent plans to reoccupy Gaza City.
Sanctions Demand:
Algerian Permanent Representative Ambassador Amar Bendjama declared: "The time has come to sanction the hand that steals land and the enemy of humanity."
He urged the Council to act "decisively and firmly" using all available measures against Israel’s crimes.
Condemnation of Forced Displacement:
Bendjama denounced Israel’s plans to "forcibly relocate all residents of Gaza City and northern Gaza under full military control," warning this would lead to "the destruction of what remains of Gaza."
"Gaza is living through real hell under an occupying force threatening international peace and security."
War Crimes Accusations:
"This is about war crimes. Those who draw their plans in blood cannot enjoy impunity—justice must call them by name."
He cited starvation, ethnic cleansing, and 22 months of forced displacement, stating the death toll from hunger alone is "too long, too heavy, and too dark to summarize on a single page."
Genocide Allegations:
Referenced the ICJ’s ongoing genocide case and ICC arrest warrants for Israeli officials.
Accused Israel of seeking "the expulsion of an entire people to deny Palestinians a state, flag, or future."
Criticism of UN Inaction:
"While the General Assembly repeatedly condemns this occupation, and the Human Rights Council documents violations, the Security Council remains silent. Silence is not neutrality—silence kills."
