AI search startup Perplexity has made an unprecedented bid to buy Google Chrome for $34.5 billion, far exceeding the company's own market capitalization, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg.
According to sources, the company sent out its offer on Tuesday, a few months after it announced its willingness to acquire Chrome if the U.S. government forces Google to sell it.
Perplexity had earlier this year offered to buy TikTok.
However, Google has shown no willingness to sell Chrome at any cost, and the court has not yet issued any order requiring the company to abandon the browser.
Perplexity spokesperson Jesse Dwyer confirmed the Wall Street Journal's report, noting that the offer comes at a time when the company's market capitalization is only about $18 billion.
