U.S. President Donald Trump announced Monday that he has initiated arrangements for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to pursue a permanent peace agreement ending the four-year conflict between their nations.
In a post on Truth Social following consultations with European leaders, Trump stated: "I spoke with President Putin and have begun arrangements for a meeting at a to-be-determined location between President Putin and President Zelenskyy."
He added: "We will then hold a trilateral meeting including both presidents plus myself. This represents an excellent early step in a war that has persisted for nearly four years."
The President revealed that Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff are coordinating with Russian and Ukrainian officials.
Trump noted he held "a very productive meeting" at the White House with European leaders including the Ukrainian President, British Prime Minister, and French President. "We discussed security guarantees for Ukraine," he explained, "which various European nations will provide in coordination with the United States. All parties are extremely pleased about the potential for achieving peace between Russia and Ukraine."
