In a development that reflects the lull in the demand for ultra-thin phones, recent reports revealed that Apple plans to reduce the production of its thin iPhone Air by about one million units this year, in light of lower-than-expected sales in Western markets, but with strong demand for the phone in China.
According to estimates by the Japanese company Mizuho Securities, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models achieve high sales compared to the same period last year, while the base version of the iPhone 17 recorded a great success over the previous iPhone 16 series, but the iPhone Air was the only exception, prompting the company to adjust its production plans.
Under this amendment, Apple will increase the production of the rest of the models by two million units, raising the overall production forecast for the iPhone 17 series from 88 to 94 million units by the beginning of 2026. This comes at a time when the company is also planning to launch the first foldable iPhone as part of its future plans.
