ChatGPT bids farewell to WhatsApp less than a year after its launch..

OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, announced that it has completely stopped working on its popular bot within the instant messaging application WhatsApp, confirming that this measure will come into effect starting from January 15, 2026.

OpenAI attributed this decision, which it announced on its official website, to changes in policies and conditions on the part of the Meta-owned WhatsApp platform. The company announced the availability of ChatGPT in WhatsApp about a year ago"We would have strongly preferred to continue serving you on WhatsApp, but we are now focused on making the transition as easy as possible for all our users," the company said in its statement.

In terms of chat logs, OpenAI clarified that there will be no automatic way to transfer chats after the deadline, since WhatsApp does not support the chat export feature.

However, the company has offered an alternative solution for users who want to keep their records, as they can currently link their ChatGPT accounts directly from within the bot's contact profile page (1-800-ChatGPT) in WhatsApp.

Once this link is selected, all previous queries in WhatsApp will be merged with the user history saved in ChatGPT's main platform.
