Kuwait condemns the continued attacks on the Consulate General in Basra..

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Kuwait’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the continued attacks targeting the country’s Consulate General in the city of Basra, in an unacceptable violation of the sanctity of the consulate and undermining the efforts of the Iraqi government to fulfill its international obligations under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (1963), particularly Article (31), which obliges the host country to take the necessary measures to ensure the full protection of the premises of consular missions and to preserve their sanctity. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continued: Despite the efforts made by the Iraqi government to try to address these attacks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes in the same context the need for the Iraqi government to take immediate and decisive measures to hold all those involved in these hostile acts accountable, ensure that they are not repeated, and take measures to protect the sanctity of the State of Kuwait’s diplomatic and consular missions accredited to the Republic of Iraq and ensure the safety and security of their staff.
