End of official support | Apple adds iPhone X to its list of obsolete products..

Apple has moved the iPhone X and the 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro to its obsolete product list, after previously classifying them as older products. This change means that Apple and its authorized service providers will no longer offer repairs or replacement parts for these devices, either under warranty or out of warranty.

Apple adds the iPhone X and the 2018 MacBook Pro to its obsolete product list.

The designation permanently ends official repairs and replacement parts for these two devices.

The iPhone X was Apple's first phone to feature Face ID facial recognition technology.

While older devices are no longer officially supported, they remain usable.

This change was announced in an update to Apple's support page for older and obsolete products on August 13th. Apple classifies a product as "old" after five to seven years since it was discontinued, and as "obsolete" after more than seven years, with the exact timing remaining at the company's discretion.

What does it mean for an iPhone X to be classified as obsolete?

When a device reaches the obsolete category, Apple and its authorized service providers cease servicing the hardware and can no longer order replacement parts. This differs from older products, which remain eligible for repair as long as parts are available.

It's important to clarify that being labeled "obsolete" does not mean the device stops working; it continues to function as normal. The only effect of this designation is when the device needs repair, forcing owners to seek third-party service providers or use refurbished or used parts.

Apple makes a special exception for Mac laptops, which may remain eligible for battery repairs alone for up to ten years from the date the company last sold the model, provided the necessary parts are available. This exception does not apply to phones, meaning the iPhone X has lost all official support.
