The European Union condemned the "terrorist attack" that targeted tourists on Tuesday in the Indian-administered region of Kashmir, resulting in civilian casualties.

In a statement posted on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed: "My deepest condolences to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and every Indian heart grieving today."

She added: "This vile terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed numerous innocent lives, will not break India’s spirit. You will stand strong in the face of this adversity, and I assure you—Europe stands with you."

Earlier today, Indian police reported at least 24 fatalities in an attack targeting a tourist resort in Pahalgam, located in Indian-administered Kashmir.
