The second session of the Algerian-Tunisian Joint Security Committee concluded on Tuesday evening, during which both parties examined the security situation along their shared border area and emphasized the need to continue bilateral coordination to enhance security cooperation between the two countries.

In a statement, Algeria's Interior Ministry noted that "the second session of the Joint Security Committee, hosted by Algeria on July 14-15, was co-chaired by the Director of Algerian Border Police and Tunisia's Director General of Migration and Foreign Nationals."

The statement clarified that "the second session focused on strengthening security cooperation between Algeria and Tunisia in implementation of the provisions of the security agreement signed between the two countries in March 2017."

It indicated that "this meeting, which included representatives from various security agencies, was dedicated to discussing the security situation along the shared border area and assessing current security challenges."

Participants also discussed "ways to develop training programs and exchange expertise in areas of mutual interest, as well as consultations on enhancing cooperation to combat cross-border organized crime, drug and psychotropic substance trafficking, along with the phenomenon of illegal migration."

According to the statement, the committee's work also included "discussing necessary measures to facilitate the movement of citizens of both countries through land border crossings, in addition to evaluating the implementation of recommendations issued during the first session of the committee held in Tunisia on May 26-27, 2024."
