U.S. jury orders Tesla to pay more than $240 million in damages for fatal accident linked to Autopilot..

A Florida jury has issued a partial verdict against Tesla, holding the company partly responsible for a fatal accident that occurred in 2019 while using the Autopilot system.

Under the ruling, Tesla must pay a portion of damages of up to $329 million to the victim's family and a survivor, including damages for actual damages and punitive damages. The details of the case suggest that Tesla will bear 33% of the responsibility for the accident, an estimated $42.5 million in actual damages. The company was also obliged to pay $200 million in punitive damages, bringing the total expected amount to about $242.5 million.

The accident occurred when a Model S owner was using Enhanced Autopilot while driving, but lost control of the vehicle after trying to pick up his mobile phone, resulting in the car colliding at high speed with a parked car, killing a woman and seriously injuring another person.
