Oman has expressed its solidarity with Saudi Arabia following repeated Houthi attacks on two Saudi airports. Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi said on Saturday that the sultanate rejects any targeting of civilian facilities and any threat to their security or to the safety of civilians.

Albusaidi made the remarks in a phone call with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, according to a statement carried by the Oman News Agency. The two ministers also exchanged views on regional developments.

According to the statement, both ministers stressed the importance of continued coordination and consultation. They also called for stepped-up efforts to contain tensions and consolidate calm, paving the way for political dialogue and the peaceful resolution of all issues and crises in order to safeguard regional security and stability.

Saudi authorities said the Houthi attacks targeted the kingdom's main airports in Riyadh and Abha. On Friday, Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation said two attacks had hit King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Thursday. One struck airport facilities and the other targeted a Saudia aircraft. Three Saudi citizens were killed and several other people were injured.

The attacks come amid a military escalation in Yemen between forces of the internationally recognised government, which is backed by Riyadh, and the Iran-backed Houthi movement.
