Kuwait's climate committee reviews negotiating stance ahead of COP31
اللجنة العليا لتغير المناخ تبحث موقف الكويت التفاوضي استعداداً لمؤتمر COP31

Kuwait's Supreme Committee for Climate Change (SCCC) on Wednesday reviewed a proposal setting out the country's negotiating position on key issues, as preparations gather pace for the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The meeting, the committee's third of 2026, was chaired by Minister of State for Development and Sustainability Affairs Dr. Reem Al-Fulaij. COP31 is due to take place in Antalya, Turkiye, from November 9 to 20.
The proposal covers major issues linked to the UNFCCC, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. It is designed to reflect Kuwait's national priorities and interests while strengthening the country's presence and active engagement in international climate negotiations.
Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Thursday, Al-Fulaij said Kuwait is developing an institutional and integrated approach to climate policy. That approach, she explained, rests on coordinating national efforts, clarifying priorities and aligning the country's climate commitments with the state's executive plans and projects.
The aim, the minister said, is to ensure that Kuwait's participation in COP31 represents its national interests and supports its sustainable development pathways.
