Kuwait is set for scattered rain, at times accompanied by thunderstorms, from around midnight as a humid low-pressure system moves over the country, with conditions expected to improve gradually from Thursday afternoon.

Darrar Al-Ali, Acting Director of the Meteorological Department, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Wednesday that weather maps and numerical forecasting models point to a build-up of low- and medium-level clouds, interspersed with cumulonimbus formations capable of producing scattered showers and occasional thunderstorms. Rainfall is expected to range from light to moderate.

The unsettled weather will also bring dust-raising winds, Al-Ali warned, which could cut horizontal visibility to below 1,000 metres in some areas.

Winds will initially blow from the southeast before turning variable. While generally light to moderate, they may at times pick up and kick up dust, further reducing visibility. Al-Ali added that waves could rise above six feet.

He urged people with asthma and allergies to take precautions, advising them to wear masks when heading outdoors, especially during thunderstorms and periods of high humidity.

The public was also encouraged to keep up with the latest forecasts through the Meteorological Department's official website, mobile application and social media accounts.
