Saudi Arabia and Indonesia expressed profound concern today over the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and called on the international community to take immediate and practical steps to end the humanitarian disaster in the Strip. This came in a joint statement issued at the conclusion of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Saudi Arabia.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the provision of urgent humanitarian and relief support to address the repercussions of the Israeli occupation’s aggression. They emphasized the critical role the international community must play in pressuring Israel to comply with international law and the resolutions of international legitimacy. They urged all nations to condemn Israel’s violations and demanded accountability under international law, stressing the need to pressure Israel to fulfill its obligations.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
The joint statement highlighted President Prabowo’s state visit to Saudi Arabia, which came at the gracious invitation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, reflecting the fraternal ties, distinguished relations, and deep-rooted historical bonds between the two countries.
The statement noted the official talks held between President Prabowo and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, during which they reviewed the historical relations between the two brotherly nations and discussed ways to enhance cooperation across all fields.
At the outset of the meeting, the Indonesian side commended the efforts of the Saudi government in serving the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors, praising the high level of coordination between the two countries to ensure the comfort of Indonesian pilgrims, Umrah performers, and visitors.
Launch of the Saudi-Indonesian Supreme Coordination Council
In a reaffirmation of their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, the two leaders chaired the first meeting of the Saudi-Indonesian Supreme Coordination Council. The council approved its governance framework and issued several recommendations aimed at enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The two leaders stressed the importance of continued support for the council’s work and its committees, along with sustained coordination to enhance its effectiveness as an institutional framework for bilateral cooperation.
Economic, Trade, and Investment Cooperation
On economic, trade, and investment matters, both sides praised the robust economic ties between them, agreeing to enhance collaboration, particularly in priority sectors. They emphasized supporting private-sector partnerships and leveraging opportunities presented by Saudi Vision 2030 and Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045 to expand cooperation.
Bilateral trade over the past five years reached approximately $31.5 billion, making Saudi Arabia Indonesia’s top trading partner in the region. Both sides agreed to further boost trade volume and increase exchanges between public and private sector officials.
Energy Cooperation
Indonesia commended Saudi Arabia’s leadership in ensuring the stability of global oil markets and its positive role in balancing global energy markets. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in crude oil, petroleum products, and petrochemicals, as well as in developing sustainable energy supply chains, technology transfer, capacity building, and joint research to support energy transitions and renewable energy goals.
They also agreed to collaborate on innovation and emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, in the energy sector.
Healthcare, Defense, and Security Cooperation
The two nations expressed their desire to enhance healthcare cooperation, particularly in Hajj and Umrah requirements, and to support investment in pharmaceuticals, vaccines, technology, and workforce development.
They also agreed to strengthen defense cooperation to achieve mutual interests and contribute to regional and global security. Both sides pledged to enhance security coordination in combating all forms of crime.
Signing of Agreements Worth $27 Billion
The two sides welcomed the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth approximately $27 billion between private-sector institutions in both countries across various fields.
Multilateral Cooperation and Regional Issues
Saudi Arabia and Indonesia stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation in international organizations to address global economic challenges. They welcomed efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in regional conflicts and reiterated that peace and stability in Palestine can only be achieved through the implementation of international resolutions on the two-state solution.
Indonesia praised Saudi Arabia’s efforts in this regard, including its role in the International Alliance for the Two-State Solution. Both sides urged all nations to actively support these efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace.
Yemen, Syria, and Sudan
On Yemen, they emphasized full support for UN and regional efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution that ensures Yemen’s unity and stability.
Regarding Syria, they stressed respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity, rejecting any interference in its internal affairs, and reiterated support for efforts to achieve security and stability in the country.
On Sudan, they underscored the importance of continued dialogue through the Jeddah Platform to achieve a complete ceasefire, end the crisis, alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people, and preserve Sudan’s sovereignty and national institutions.
