A $40 billion bridge loan signed by SoftBank Group to finance its investment in U.S. technology giant OpenAI has attracted a new group of 21 financial institutions as part of a broader phase of the syndicated loan arrangement, according to people familiar with the matter. The sources, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, said the group, which joins other financial institutions already involved in the deal, secured a total share of approximately $7 billion in the credit facility. They added that First Abu Dhabi Bank, GIC, and Standard Chartered each financed a share of approximately $1 billion of the total loan. The remaining amount, they explained, was distributed among several European, Japanese, and Taiwanese banks. The people explained that the number of new lenders was calculated based on their parent entities, given that some banking institutions participate through several subsidiary branches.
