Apple loses the antitrust battle... and may soon lose its commissions from external payment platforms..

Apple is facing increasing pressure from antitrust regulators worldwide and appears to be on the verge of losing another battle in the United States after attempting to impose commissions on purchases made through third-party payment platforms. In its latest regulatory filing, Apple acknowledged that it may no longer be able to collect these commissions in the future. The

European Commission was the first body to compel Apple to allow third-party app stores on its devices, particularly since the official App Store charges a commission of up to 30% on purchases, including in-app purchases.

This leaves developers facing a difficult choice when distributing content, as they are forced to pay this high percentage. Japan and Brazil have also taken similar steps.

However, the US court took a different approach, not requiring Apple to allow third-party app stores, but rather obligating it to allow developers to offer in-app purchases and subscriptions through alternative payment platforms.
